HOW TO PERFORM THE PERFECT SHORYUKEN
-By Ken Masters
- Stand in a fighting stance with your feet shoulder-width apart and your fists clenched.
- Quickly move your right foot forward and pivot on your left foot, turning your body 90 degrees to the right.
- As you turn, lift your right arm and bend your elbow, bringing your fist near your ear. This is the starting position of the shoryuken.
- Push off the ground with your right foot and launch yourself into the air, extending your right arm and fist upward in a diagonal motion. Your left arm should stay close to your body for balance.
- As you rise, shout “Shoryuken!” with confidence and power. This will help you focus your energy and intimidate your opponent.
- At the peak of your jump, snap your elbow and wrist downward, creating a sharp angle with your arm and fist. This will increase the impact and damage of your shoryuken.
- As you fall back to the ground, retract your arm and fist to your side and land on both feet, facing your opponent. Be ready for their counterattack or follow up with another move.
